The goal

The homeowners wanted the fireplace to anchor their living room under the tall vaulted ceiling. A plain drywall surround didn't do the height justice.

Building the wall

We installed new shiplap boards across the full surround, running every course level from the floor up to the sloped ceiling. The fireplace opening was framed and trimmed, and the baseboard was wrapped around the new surround to match the rest of the room.

Painted white

Nail holes were filled, seams caulked and everything sanded before the shiplap and trim were painted white. The clean gaps between boards give the wall its shadow lines against the warm grey walls.
